Allow notification emails to be directed to different emails based on user selection

We have a contact form that needs to direct entries to different addresses based on what the visitor selects -- so questions about sales go to the sales department, technical questions go to the support department, etc. I've placed the different email addresses as values in a selection box, but I'm not able to select that field value as the destination email for notification (has to be an "email" field). I also tried a javascript solution that would change the value of a hidden email field when a user made a selection from the drop down, but that is not working.
